In today's world where appearance is everything, a hair stylist can be your best resource. If you already have a favorite hair stylist, then you are set. However, if you need to find a hair stylist, then your best bet is simply going to be trying different salons and different stylists until you find one that you really like. Though you can also try out stylists that your friends and family recommend, you will never know what you feel about a stylist until you have him or her actually cut and style your hair. Thus, during your search for a good stylist, be prepared for some hair styles that you will not be thrilled with.

Make sure when you are testing out a hair stylist to have them both cut and style your hair, including coloring, straightening, curling - you want your hair stylist to do everything that he or she would ever have to do for you. Make sure to also check out the references of your hair stylist. Ask him or her which cosmetology school he or she attended and then check that he or she did graduate. You also want to make sure that your stylist is up to date with the latest hair styles. Ask him or her what styles are in today and then check out the latest fashion and hair magazines to make sure he or she is right.

You want a hair stylist that will be able to suggest a hair style for you that is flattering to your face shape and hair type. If your hair stylist can not suggest any styles for you, choose a different hair stylist. The reason to have a stylist do your hair is that you do not have always know what you want your hair to look like. You simply have to go to your stylist and let him or her work his or her magic. However, you can only do this if you trust your stylist, so make sure that you test him or her out with a few regular styles first.

Remember that every hair stylist at a salon is not the same. Thus, if your regular hair stylist is out and the salon offers a different hair stylist for your hair, be careful. Though the salon feels this second stylist is just as qualified as the first, he or she will not be as familiar with your hair and thus you may end up with a style you do not like. For this reason, be careful when using a different stylist for the first time - even if that stylist is at the same salon as your regular stylist.
